IMG to Manage Faldo-Designed Thatluang Lake Golf Resort in Laos
IMG has secured its first golf course management contract in Laos, overseeing operations at the new Thatluang Lake Golf Resort. The Vientiane property, designed by Faldo Design, prepares for a late 2026 opening.

IMG Expands Asian Footprint with Laos Project
IMG announced its appointment as the golf course management partner for Thatluang Lake Golf Resort. This development marks IMG's initial golf course management assignment within Laos. The new golf destination is currently under construction in Vientiane. It is scheduled to open later this year, in late 2026.
This project represents a significant step in IMG's continued expansion across the Asian region. Faldo Design, a well-known international firm, created the course layout. Flagstick GCCM is constructing the resort to international standards. Premium turf for the course is being supplied by STS.
Course Specifications and Playing Surfaces
The Thatluang Lake Golf Resort aims to provide a championship-calibre playing experience. It is situated within the rapidly developing Thatluang Lake Special Economic Zone. The design and construction prioritise consistent playing conditions. Zeon Zoysia grass will cover the fairways, tees, and roughs. This choice demonstrates a focus on density, presentation, and playability.
The greens will feature TifEagle Bermuda grass. This putting surface is recognised in championship golf for its smooth, consistent performance. It also delivers reliable green speeds. IMG’s management will focus on maintaining exceptional course conditioning. They will also implement a sustainable operating platform to support golf’s growth in Laos.
Extensive Practice Facilities and Development Goals
A key component of the resort is its expansive golf academy. This facility includes a two-tier driving range. It intends to provide a leading practice and learning environment for the region. The academy will cater to golfers of all abilities. It will offer high-quality instruction. This supports both individual player development and broader participation in the game.
Russell Hannah, IMG’s VP of Golf Course Services, stated his company’s pride in bringing its management expertise to Laos. He noted the resort's combination of a Faldo Design course and high construction standards. The goal is to establish Laos as an attractive destination for international golfers.
Impact on Laos Golf Tourism and Local Development
Thatluang Lake Golf Resort is expected to play a role in introducing more international golfers to Laos. It will also create new opportunities for local players, coaches, and the wider golf industry. Construction continues towards the anticipated late 2026 opening. This development reflects a shared commitment among project partners.
They aim to create a golf facility combining international standards with a strong foundation for sustainable growth. This includes community engagement and golf development. Golfers planning a visit to Vientiane later this year can anticipate new tee time access. This marks a new chapter for golf in Laos.
