Hugo's Dominant Victory

Jean Hugo, the South African professional, claimed the inaugural Portugal Legends Championship with a commanding six-shot lead. The tournament, which concluded on 1 November 2026, saw Hugo deliver a final round of 10-under-par 62 at Pinheirinho on the Alentejo coast.

This bogey-free performance brought his total score to 20-under-par, securing his second Legends Tour title within his last three starts. His previous victory this year was at the Reignwood Legends Championship held in Beijing in October.

Tournament Highlights and Key Performances

Hugo's final round 62 established a new course record at Pinheirinho. Englishman Greg Owen finished in second place at 14-under-par, following a closing round of 65. Johan Edfors secured third position, with Andrew Marshall taking fourth at 12-under-par. Overnight leader Paul Lawrie dropped to a tie for fifth after a level-par 72 in the final round.

Notably, Scott Drummond achieved a rare feat during the first round, recording nine consecutive birdies from the 6th to the 14th hole, an accomplishment that equalled a world record. Drummond finished the event tied for 32nd.

Pinheirinho Course Set for Public Opening

The Pinheirinho Comporta course, which hosted the championship, is scheduled to officially open to the public in the upcoming year, 2027. Located on Portugal's Alentejo coast, the course received positive remarks from the champion. Hugo described the layout as "nice" and "generous," noting its width off the tee which allows for longer drives.

He also highlighted the strategic challenge presented by the par-three holes, which offer numerous pin positions that can make play particularly tricky.

Legends Tour's Growing Asian Footprint

Jean Hugo's triumph in Portugal adds to his recent success on the Legends Tour, which includes a victory earlier this year at the Reignwood Legends Championship in Beijing. This highlights the tour's expanding presence and schedule in Asia.

Furthermore, Greg Owen, who finished second in Portugal, remains a strong contender for the "Road to Cambodia" Order of Merit, currently led by Stephen Gallacher.

The tour's inclusion of events in key Asian markets such as China and the focus on an Order of Merit culminating in Cambodia shows its commitment to the region, offering Asian golf enthusiasts opportunities to follow top-tier senior professional golf and potentially visit these international venues.
