World No. 47 Nicolai Højgaard will make his first Sydney appearance at The Lakes Golf Club for the 2026 BMW Australian PGA Championship, which runs from November 26–29.

Højgaard to Tee Off in Sydney
Nicolai Højgaard, currently ranked 47th globally, is set to compete in the 2026 BMW Australian PGA Championship. This marks his inaugural professional appearance in Sydney, taking place at The Lakes Golf Club from November 26 to 29. The 25-year-old Danish golfer joins an international lineup for the co-sanctioned event.
He was a member of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup team in 2023. Earlier this year, the player achieved two runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour, first at the Texas Children’s Houston Open in March, followed by another strong performance at the Truist Championship in May. Højgaard has also secured three victories on the DP World Tour, including the 2023 DP World Tour Championship.
This tournament will launch his 2026/27 DP World Tour season campaign. He expressed anticipation for his Sydney debut, noting that The Lakes Golf Club appears to be an excellent course.
Championship Returns to The Lakes Golf Club
The BMW Australian PGA Championship is a significant fixture on the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia schedule. Its return to Sydney for the 2026 edition is notable, as The Lakes Golf Club hosts the event for the first time since 1987. PGA of Australia CEO Gavin Kirkman highlighted Højgaard’s participation as a positive development for the championship.
Kirkman stated that the Dane’s experience at the highest level, including his Ryder Cup involvement, enhances the field's overall quality. The CEO also mentioned that the championship’s return to Sydney represents an important moment for Australian golf, expecting players of Højgaard’s calibre to contribute to a successful week for fans. The New South Wales Government, through Destination NSW, supports the championship.
Field Features Strong International Contingent
Højgaard joins a growing list of confirmed players for the 2026 BMW Australian PGA Championship. The field includes defending champion David Puig, alongside notable names such as Adam Scott, Min Woo Lee, and Cam Smith. Other confirmed participants are Lucas Herbert, Elvis Smylie, Cam Davis, Corey Conners, Carlos Ortiz, Daniel Hillier, Travis Smyth, and Josele Ballester.
Competitors will vie for the Joe Kirkwood Cup on a course expected to present a significant challenge. The event is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia, bringing together diverse talent from both tours.
Regional Impact for Golfers and Tours
The inclusion of a European Ryder Cup player like Nicolai Højgaard in the 2026 BMW Australian PGA Championship elevates the tournament's international appeal. For players on the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia, competing against top international talent offers a direct measure of their game and potential pathways to the DP World Tour, which co-sanctions the event.
This collaboration between the DP World Tour and the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia provides valuable ranking points for both circuits, influencing player standings and qualification for subsequent tournaments.
For golf enthusiasts in the Asia-Pacific region, the event at The Lakes Golf Club offers an opportunity to witness high-calibre play, potentially driving golf travel interest to Sydney. Tour operators and travel agencies could promote packages around this event, encouraging international visitors to experience Australian golf courses during the November 26–29 tournament window.
