Saudi PIF Concludes Women's Golf Sponsorship

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) has reportedly concluded its sponsorship of women's professional golf. This decision follows its earlier announcement to cease financial backing for the LIV Golf League. The PIF previously served as the primary sponsor for the Aramco Global Series.

Moving forward, Golf Saudi, the national golf foundation, will assume sponsorship of what was formerly the PIF London Championship from 2027. This event is set to become a US$4 million co-sanctioned tournament between the Ladies European Tour (LET) and the LPGA Tour, starting in 2027.

Golf Saudi and the LET confirmed this multi-year commitment, which also includes a partnership for the LET's Order of Merit programme. This new arrangement could potentially replace the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open on the LPGA Tour schedule, which is reportedly not listed for the upcoming season.

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Marks 25 Years

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2026, offering a unique format on the DP World Tour. This event brings together 168 professionals and an equal number of celebrity or amateur partners across three renowned Scottish courses: St Andrews' Old Course, Kingsbarns, and Carnoustie.

Participants play each course once before the cut, with the top 60 professionals and ties advancing to a final round at St Andrews. The top 20 amateur-professional duos also compete for their respective title on Sunday. Professionals are vying for a US$5 million prize fund, alongside crucial Ryder Cup qualification points and Race to Dubai points.

Robert MacIntyre, who secured the title last year shortly after Europe's Ryder Cup victory, returns as the defending champion. Notably, 26 golfers from the LIV Golf League are participating, many having received invitations.

Tom Kim Pursues Asian Games Gold for Military Exemption

The ongoing Asian Games presents a critical opportunity for South Korean golfers to secure an exemption from mandatory two-year military service. A gold medal in either the four-round individual or team stroke-play events, which run concurrently, would grant this exemption.

Among the high-profile contenders is Tom Kim, who departed the Presidents Cup early to travel to Japan and prepare at Kasugai Country Club. Kim made a solid start to the men's individual competition, which commenced on Wednesday and is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, by carding an opening round of three-under-par.

Evolving Landscape for Asian Professional Golfers

The restructuring of women's golf sponsorship, with Golf Saudi stepping in to back a US$4 million co-sanctioned event from 2027, establishes a significant new fixture on the global calendar. This development could create fresh opportunities for Asian women golfers to compete at a higher level, potentially shifting tour schedules and prize money distribution.

For South Korean golf, the Asian Games directly impacts the careers of its top male players; a gold medal allows talents like Tom Kim to continue their professional ascent without interruption for military service, preserving their momentum on the global stage.

The presence of LIV Golf League players at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship also reflects the broader, evolving dynamics of professional golf, a situation Asian tours and players continue to navigate in terms of eligibility and competitive pathways.
