Sharma's Commanding Victory in Greater Noida

Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma, aged 30, triumphed at the Kapil Dev Invitational Tour Championship in Greater Noida on Saturday, October 10. Sharma finished the tournament with a commanding 14-under 274, securing a six-stroke victory. His consistent play included rounds of 68, 65, 72, and a final 69.

This marks Sharma’s second win on the DP World PGTI circuit this season, following his success at the Boulders Classic in April, which had ended an eight-year drought for a professional title. The two-time DP World Tour winner received Rs 30 lakh from the overall Rs 2 crore prize fund for his performance.

This win provides a significant boost as he prepares to lead the Indian contingent at the US$4 million DP World India Championship.

Decisive Moments in the Final Round

Sharma began the final day with a two-shot advantage. Despite dropping bogeys in the middle of his round, including on the 10th hole, which saw his lead diminish, he responded emphatically. The decisive moment arrived on the par-five 12th, where he holed a putt from approximately 70 feet for an eagle amidst gusty conditions.

Sharma described the eagle as a “pleasant surprise” that came at “exactly the right moment,” providing a “huge lift” and shifting momentum back in his favour. He relied on his short game to protect his lead through the challenging closing stretch, making a crucial save on the 16th after his tee shot was pushed behind a tree by the wind.

Leading Finishers and Tour Standings

Italy’s Michele Ortolani, with rounds of 72, 70, 65, and 73, shared second place at eight-under 280 alongside Bengaluru's Manoj S, who posted 70, 71, 66, and 73. Bengaluru’s Khalin Joshi, a four-time winner on the DP World PGTI this season, finished fourth at seven-under 281.

Joshi's performance earned him Rs 9,99,600, strengthening his position in second place on the Race to DP World India Championship standings, with his season earnings now totalling Rs 77,33,825. Gurugram’s Harman Sachdeva and Chandigarh’s Yuvraj Sandhu, the 2025 DP World PGTI Order of Merit champion, shared fifth place at six-under 282.

Momentum for the DP World India Championship

Sharma's victory positions him as a formidable competitor for the upcoming DP World India Championship, the flagship event of the DP World PGTI. This tournament is co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour and carries a prize purse of US$4 million. The event will bring together top Indian talent and international players.

The Race to the DP World India Championship also finalised its qualifiers, with Saptak Talwar, the current leader, finishing tied 16th at one-over 289 in the Kapil Dev Invitational. Viraj Madappa secured the final qualification spot for the DP World India Championship from the current DP World PGTI Order of Merit, holding 24th place with season earnings of Rs 24,90,042. Golfers planning to attend or follow the DP World India Championship will see Sharma's recent form as a key indicator.
