Queensland Industry Honours Set for October

The finalists for the 2026 Queensland Golf Industry Awards have been officially announced, with the ceremony scheduled for Thursday, October 8, at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. This annual event is jointly organised by the PGA of Australia, Golf Australia, the Queensland Sports Turf Management Association, and Golf Management Australia.

Its purpose is to acknowledge the leading individuals, tournaments, and golf facilities throughout Queensland for their contributions over the past 12 months. The awards aim to highlight excellence across various aspects of the golf industry, ranging from club management and course maintenance to professional services and community engagement. Golf industry professionals and enthusiasts have until September 15, 2026, to secure early bird tickets for the gala.

Northern Queensland Clubs Prominent in Nominations

Northern Queensland clubs have demonstrated a strong showing in this year's nominations. Townsville Golf Club leads the field with seven finalist positions across a diverse range of categories.

These include nominations for Mitch Bligh in the GM Distinguished Manager category, Joshua Eastment for Golf Club Staff Member of the Year, and Geoffrey Eales for Golf Club Board Member of the Year.

Furthermore, Cameron Gray is recognised for Assistant Superintendent Recognition, and the club's volunteers, known as ‘Vollies’, are finalists for Volunteer of the Year. Townsville Golf Club also secured nominations for Get into Golf Venue of the Year and in the Regional Facility category.

Woodford Golf Club also features prominently, earning five nominations, including its PGA Professional Jack Day, Board Member Andre Le Huray, and General Manager Dean Dagan, alongside its junior golf program.

Recognising Metropolitan, Regional, and Off-Course Facilities

The awards feature competitive categories for the Most Outstanding Queensland Club, Facility or Place to Play, distinguishing between metropolitan, regional, and off-course venues. Metropolitan finalists include Keperra Country Golf Club, Pacific Golf Club, Maroochy River Golf Club, and Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club.

The regional category sees nominations for Cairns Golf Club, City Golf Club, Half Moon Bay Golf Club, Kingaroy Golf Club, Maleny Golf Club, Pacific Harbour Golf and Country Club, Stanthorpe Golf Club, Townsville Golf Club, and Woodford Golf Club.

Beyond traditional courses, the Off-Course category acknowledges innovative facilities such as Big Swing – Virginia, Birdie and Shank, Cairns Golf Academy, Golf 24 Landers Pocket, The Golf Nest, and X-Golf Mackay, reflecting the evolving landscape of golf participation.
