Aldar Elevates Abu Dhabi Championship Role at Yas Links
Real estate developer Aldar is now the Title Partner for the 2026 Abu Dhabi Championship, using the event at Yas Links to promote its wider leisure and residential portfolio across multiple markets.

Aldar Takes Title Partnership at Yas Links
Aldar, a prominent real estate developer, has assumed the role of Title Partner for the 2026 Abu Dhabi Championship. The tournament, now officially known as the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship, is scheduled to take place from 5–8 November at Yas Links.
This event marks the start of the season-ending DP World Tour Play-Offs, where the top 70 players from the Race to Dubai will compete, with the leading 50 advancing to the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai the following week.
Six-time Major winner Rory McIlroy, the reigning Masters and Race to Dubai champion, has confirmed his participation; he has previously finished runner-up four times at this tournament. Aldar’s association with the event and the DP World Tour began in 2025 as an Official Marketing Partner and Official Real Estate Partner.
The company owns Yas Links, which has hosted the tournament since 2022, and has been central to developing Yas Island into a major leisure and residential destination.
Sponsorship Expands to Destination Marketing
Aldar's expanded involvement indicates a shift in golf sponsorship beyond traditional brand visibility. The company aims to use the championship as a global platform to connect its property, destination, hospitality, and lifestyle offerings with elite golf.
Aldar’s business model is well-suited for this strategy, as it develops and manages residential communities, hotels, retail spaces, offices, schools, and golf courses. Its portfolio extends beyond Abu Dhabi to Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Egypt, and the UK.
Aldar states it has delivered more than 35,000 homes since its inception and manages assets generating recurring income valued at over US$15 billion. This integrated approach allows the company to tell multiple commercial stories through the sport of golf.
Connecting Golf Audiences to Property Sales
Golf attracts an international audience, including affluent consumers, business decision-makers, and frequent travellers. This provides a direct link to Aldar’s property business and broader customer acquisition efforts. The championship allows Aldar to demonstrate its developed destinations and the lifestyle they offer, rather than simply sponsoring an event.
The company plans to measure the partnership's success through various metrics, including qualified property leads generated, international buyer inquiries, VIP meetings, destination website traffic, and hotel and resort referrals.
Aldar’s first-half 2026 results show that overseas and expatriate resident buyers accounted for AED 7.6 billion, making up 80% of its UAE sales during that period.
Benefits for the DP World Tour
This partnership also offers advantages for the DP World Tour, as a title partner with a direct connection to the host destination can strengthen the event's overall proposition. Professional golf tournaments increasingly compete for viewers, spectators, corporate guests, hospitality customers, sponsors, and overall destination appeal.
The PGA Tour, for instance, reported substantial growth in sponsorship, hospitality, pro-am, and ticket revenues between 2019 and 2025, while increasingly focusing on giving individual tournaments distinctive local identities.
The Abu Dhabi Championship already features a globally recognisable destination, an acclaimed links course, elite professional players, and a major local corporate partner in Aldar. This combination helps create a tournament that functions as both a sporting property and a destination experience.
Implications for Asia's Golf Industry
This partnership model, where a real estate developer uses a major golf event for destination marketing, shows a trend that could influence golf business in Asia. Asian developers with significant leisure and residential portfolios, particularly those owning or managing golf courses, may explore similar expanded sponsorships.
For instance, integrated resorts in countries like Vietnam or Thailand, which often include golf courses, could adopt this strategy to promote their wider offerings to international golf travellers.
Such an approach could lead to more direct investment in tournament quality and spectator experiences, potentially increasing prize money or improving course facilities at Asian events.
Asian golf events may see an increase in corporate partnerships seeking to connect with affluent international audiences for property or tourism sales, potentially attracting an additional 10-15% in non-traditional sponsorship revenue by 2028.
