Major Investment at Costa Dorada Venue

INFINITUM has completed a multi-million-euro renovation of The Hills course, located on Spain's Costa Dorada. The extensive project, led by Dave Sampson of European Golf Design, concluded by late September 2026, aiming to redefine the celebrated layout through innovative design and sustainability-led enhancements.

All 18 holes have received significant upgrades, combining strategic improvements with industry-leading environmental practices. This investment represents the most substantial upgrade to The Hills since its opening in 2008, building on the successful transformation of the adjacent Lakes course in 2024.

The comprehensive overhaul further reinforces INFINITUM's reputation as a leading golf destination in Europe, preparing it for upcoming high-profile events. Joaquín Mora Bertrán, Deputy General Manager at INFINITUM, stated that the renovation had surpassed expectations, bolstering both the course's character and its playability on the European stage.

Strategic Course Design Enhancements

The renovation introduced several notable changes across the course. The 18th hole has undergone a dramatic transformation, now featuring an island-green-style finale set against the course's distinctive quarry backdrop. Further enhancements include the tenth hole, a par-three, which has been lengthened and now presents a redesigned green complex.

The layout of the closing stretch was also modified, with the 15th and 16th holes reversed to improve strategic flow. A new water feature was added to the 15th hole. On the front nine, the opening hole has been reimagined from a left-to-right dogleg to a right-to-left challenge, offering a new strategic test from the first tee. These changes aim to enhance both the visual appeal and the tactical demands placed on players.

Sustainability and Practice Facilities

Sustainability was a core principle guiding the renovation efforts. Drought-resistant Bermuda 419 grass has been introduced on the fairways, alongside Zoysia grass around the bunkers. These choices are intended to significantly reduce the course's water and chemical consumption. Bunker refinements across the layout aim to enhance both maintenance efficiency and strategic play.

Beyond the course itself, INFINITUM has added a new short-game practice facility, featuring dedicated areas for putting and chipping. Extensive work on the ninth hole included the creation of a new teeing ground and a redesigned green complex.

Additional improvements to the rockface surrounding the eighth green further strengthen the course's visual appeal, contributing to a more cohesive aesthetic.

Showcase at DP World Tour Qualifying School

The investment in The Hills course is poised to elevate INFINITUM's standing, following the successful transformation of its Lakes course in 2024. Joaquín Mora Bertrán noted that the new 18th hole is a world-class finish deserving recognition among Europe's best, expressing anticipation for its reception at the upcoming Qualifying School.

The DP World Tour Qualifying School, scheduled to run from 6 to 11 November 2026 at INFINITUM, will serve as a significant platform to showcase both the newly renovated Hills and Lakes courses. This event will test players on the enhanced design and strategic challenges presented by the updated layouts.

Outside of golf, INFINITUM is recognised for its award-winning Beach Club and premium real estate offerings, with its Mediterranean coast location making it a sought-after destination for visitors and potential homeowners.

Implications for Asian Golf Development

The comprehensive renovation at INFINITUM, particularly its emphasis on sustainability through drought-resistant grasses and efficient maintenance, provides a model for golf course development globally.

For Asian golf markets facing similar environmental pressures, such as those in Southeast Asia with high humidity and water management challenges, these design and turf choices offer practical lessons.

Operators and developers in regions like Thailand or Vietnam, which are actively expanding their golf tourism infrastructure, may observe how these upgrades enhance course playability and appeal while managing resource consumption.

The successful integration of environmental responsibility with an improved playing experience, culminating in a showcase event like the DP World Tour Qualifying School, demonstrates a pathway for Asian venues looking to attract international tournaments and discerning golf travellers.

Clubs considering significant capital expenditure should evaluate the long-term operational savings and enhanced marketability achieved through such sustainable design principles.
