Birdie Bandits Organises Junior World Cup Qualifier at Gunung Geulis for Florida Invitational

Indonesia Hosts Qualifier for International Junior Event

Birdie Bandits, an Indonesian golf organiser, concluded the Junior World Cup Golf Indonesia this weekend at Gunung Geulis Country Club in West Java. The three-day event, running from 7 to 9 August 2026, served as a qualifying stage for the FCG-AR Junior World Cup Invitational in Florida, scheduled for January 2027. This tournament also marked Birdie Bandits' first anniversary.

Forty junior golfers competed in the "College Preparation" category, aiming for invitations to the international event. The competition was structured across three age divisions: Middle School for 12-14 year olds, High School for 15-18 year olds, and College for 19-23 year olds, encompassing both boys and girls in each class.

Pathway to US College Golf Programmes

The FCG-AR Junior World Cup Invitational is a 54-hole international junior golf tournament. It will take place from 2 to 4 January 2027 at the Santa Lucia River Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Future Champions Golf (FCG) and AR Consulting jointly organise the invitational, which brings together junior golfers under 19 to compete for global rankings.

Rony Gunawan, General Manager of Gunung Geulis Country Club, stated that participants travelling to Florida would meet coaches from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the body responsible for college golf competitions.

This direct engagement provides insights into the pathway for college golf in the United States, a significant opportunity for aspiring professionals.

Beyond Competition: Mentorship and Younger Categories

The Junior World Cup Golf Indonesia offered more than competitive rounds. On Saturday, 8 August 2026, participants attended a discussion session with a US College Golf Coach and three college golf alumni: William Sjaichuddin, Gabriel Hansel Hari, and Gianti Mahardhika. These sessions aimed to educate young players about college golf prospects and career progression.

From the "College Preparation" categories, the top five finishers in each of the three classes will receive invitations to the FCG-AR Junior World Cup Invitational 2027. This accounts for a total of 15 invitation spots.

In addition to the qualifier, Birdie Bandits also ran a separate "Birdie Bandits" category for younger juniors aged 12 and under, which competed over two days, 8-9 August 2026. This category included classes for 7-9 year olds and 10-12 year olds, for both boys and girls.

This initiative by Birdie Bandits provides a direct, structured route for Indonesian junior golfers to gain international exposure and access US collegiate programmes.
