Minjee Lee Confirmed for Women's TGL Debut

Minjee Lee, the Australian major champion, is confirmed to compete in the inaugural Women's TGL (WTGL) season. She will join the Atlanta Drive GC roster, a team already recognised for its success in the men's TGL. The new women’s team golf league commences its first matches in November.

Competition will take place at the custom-built SoFi Centre, located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Lee, currently ranked 13th globally, expressed her anticipation for the team environment. She observed her brother, Min Woo, competing in the men’s version of the league. Lee noted his enjoyment of the team dynamic and the atmosphere at the SoFi Centre. Her participation brings a prominent Asian-Australian presence to the new league.

Five Teams and Global Talent

The WTGL features five founding teams, each comprising five players. Atlanta Drive GC's roster includes Lee, Charley Hull, Nataliya Guseva, Andrea Lee, and fellow major champion Yuka Saso. Other teams are Boston Common Golf, Los Angeles Golf Club, Motor City Golf Club, and New York Golf Club. These 25 players collectively hold 112 LPGA Tour victories and 15 major championships.

Eight of them rank within the top 15 of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. Notable Asian players involved include Lydia Ko, who will represent New York Golf Club alongside Danielle Kang, Linn Grant, Rose Zhang, and Yana Wilson. Jeeno Thitikul and Ruoning Yin are also confirmed participants, competing for Motor City Golf Club.

Minjee Lee stated that the WTGL presents an exciting opportunity to bring the same energy to women’s golf. She looks forward to experiencing the team format herself. Regarding Atlanta Drive GC, Lee added that the team has established a winning culture.

The WTGL will operate a round-robin regular season, followed by a playoff stage. This includes single-elimination semifinals and a best-of-three final. Each match will see three players from a five-player roster compete. Matches are designed to conclude in approximately two hours. The competition format incorporates fast-paced elements.

These include mic’d-up access for players, strategic use of the ‘Hammer’ mechanism, and shot-clock pressure. Real-time performance data and analytics will also feature. Rufus Hack, president of golf at TMRW Sports, confirmed that the WTGL combines world-class LPGA Tour stars with fan energy. He noted this creates a thrilling new activity for women’s golf. The five teams will compete through November and December.
