International Team Captain Geoff Ogilvy has expressed strong confidence that his squad is prepared to conclude the United States’ near three-decade hold on the Presidents Cup. The event, scheduled for this September at Medinah Country Club in Chicago, represents a significant opportunity for the Internationals.

Ogilvy, who has served as both a player and assistant captain in past Presidents Cups, has dedicated extensive time to planning for this biennial contest. A key element of his team's preparation involves using intimate knowledge of Medinah’s Course No.3, a layout that Ogilvy’s own firm, OCM, previously redesigned.

This direct involvement in the course’s development could provide the International team with a distinct early advantage as they aim to overturn the historical dominance.

On the American side, Captain Brandt Snedeker anticipates a highly competitive showdown. Despite the United States' impressive record of 13 Presidents Cup victories, Snedeker maintains that his team approaches the event with a fresh perspective, starting from zero.

He acknowledged Ogilvy’s meticulous preparations, sensing a notable “urgency” from the International camp to secure a win. Snedeker, who balances his captaincy duties with his playing schedule, indicated that the American players are motivated, particularly after their Ryder Cup performance in 2025. His team is ready for what he expects to be a well-orchestrated challenge from Ogilvy.

International Team's Growing Desire

Ogilvy characterises the prevailing mood within his team as “desire” rather than urgency, noting a growing passion among players to achieve victory. This sentiment has been building through various interactions, from team dinners to practice rounds and online discussions among both new and veteran players.

The International team's ambition is evident with recent strong performances by players such as newly crowned Open Champion Ryan Fox, making his debut, and Korean star Tom Kim, who secured the Scottish Open the week prior.

Veteran Adam Scott, for instance, has participated in 11 Presidents Cups without a win, highlighting the long-standing objective to break the losing streak that dates back to the International team's sole triumph in 1998 at Royal Melbourne.
