SGA Establishes New National Roster

The Singapore Golf Association (SGA) announced its national squad for the 2026/27 season on August 27. This roster includes Singapore’s top amateur and professional golfers. These players will represent the nation in both domestic and international competitions. The SGA confirms its ongoing commitment to nurturing a robust, high-performance pathway for its athletes.

This pathway includes structured training programmes, extensive competition exposure, and access to essential technical and sports science resources. The association aims to provide comprehensive support for athlete progression. Selection for the squad involved a thorough assessment of performances over the past year.

This included outcomes from squad trials, Order of Merit standings, and other competitive results. A committee also contributed to the final selection process.

Notable Achievements on the Ladies European Tour

The 2026 squad begins its season following a series of strong international performances by Singaporean golfers. These results demonstrate the progress of Singapore’s high-performance programme. Shannon Tan stands out among these players. She achieved a significant season on the Ladies European Tour, securing two victories. Tan subsequently won the LET Order of Merit.

She also recorded Singapore’s best-ever finish at a Major championship, placing tied-sixth at the AIG Women’s Open. Her achievements highlight the potential for Singaporean players on the global golf stage. The SGA's investment in player development shows tangible returns through these results. Such performances inspire younger golfers within Singapore's development system.

Professional and Amateur Successes

On the men’s professional side, Nicklaus Chiam and Ryan Ang each secured their first professional titles this year. Chiam won the PKNS Selangor Masters, while Ang claimed the Straits Cup Xiamen Open. James Leow also earned his Asian Tour card, following his success on the Asian Development Tour. The amateur ranks continue to produce strong results.

National squad members have made their mark at major international championships. They contributed to Singapore’s best-ever finishes at the World Amateur Team Championships (WATC) in 2025. Justin Kuk, who won the Vietnam Amateur Open last month, expressed his pride at returning to the national squad.

He noted the blend of younger and older players within the team, fostering shared learning. SGA National Coach Murray Smit described the squad as a compelling mix of established players and new talent.

Future Competitions and Development Focus

Coach Smit stated that the athletes have shown their ability and potential at high levels of competition. He added that the focus now involves providing continued support, preparation, and international exposure for their development. The SGA anticipates this group will represent Singapore well regionally and internationally.

The 2026 national squad will compete in major international events throughout the year. This includes the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. Singapore will send Nicklaus Chiam, James Leow, Hiroshi Tai, Shannon Tan, Amanda Tan, and Chen Xingtong to this event.

With Singapore’s golfers making an international impact, the SGA will strengthen its pathway from junior development through to elite and professional golf. This national squad programme forms a central part of the SGA’s wider strategy to develop top-tier athletes and motivate future generations of Singaporean golfers.
