Sungjae Im Takes Three-Stroke Lead at SJM Macao Open 2026
Korean golfer Sungjae Im established a three-stroke advantage at Macau Golf & Country Club, posting a 13-under total of 127 after two bogey-free rounds.

Im Extends Lead at Macau
Sungjae Im, the 28-year-old Korean professional, solidified his position at the top of the SJM Macao Open 2026 leaderboard after the second round on Friday, 16 October. Playing at Macau Golf & Country Club, Im delivered a bogey-free 63 (seven-under par) for the day, marking the lowest score of the tournament so far.
This impressive round followed his six-under par opening round, giving him a commanding total of 127 (13-under par) through 36 holes. Im, a two-time PGA Tour winner at the 2020 Honda Classic and the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open, currently holds a three-stroke lead.
He noted his satisfaction with two consecutive bogey-free rounds and highlighted the importance of managing wind conditions in the upcoming rounds, planning to adjust his strategy between safer play and more aggressive approaches depending on the weather.
Wang and Truslow in Pursuit
Trailing Im by three strokes, Wang Wei-hsuan of Chinese Taipei and American Austin Truslow share second place, both sitting at 10-under par with a total of 130. Wang, aged 27, returns to contention at Macau Golf & Country Club a year after finishing as runner-up in the 2025 SJM Macao Open, where he lost a playoff to Germany’s Dominic Foos.
He recorded a bogey-free round on Friday, expressing satisfaction with his driving, second shots, and improved putting. Truslow also had a strong second round, starting on the tenth hole and making four-under par on his first nine, which included two birdies and an eagle. He added two more birdies on his back nine, also without a bogey.
Truslow commented on his increasing comfort with the course, despite its “mountainous” feel, which he likened to the hilly courses he now plays in Alabama.
Indonesian Duo Advances to Weekend
Two Indonesian golfers successfully navigated the cut line to advance to the final two rounds at Macau Golf & Country Club. Naraajie Emerald R.P., making his debut at the Macau Open, followed an opening 72 (one-over par) with a strong 66 (five-under par) in the second round, bringing his total to 138 (four-under par) and placing him in a tie for 27th.
Naraajie emphasised the critical role of strong ball striking on the challenging, narrow, and windy course. Jonathan Wijono, known as Jowi, also secured his place for the weekend. Despite a second-round 71 (one-over par), Jowi maintained a total of 139 (one-under par).
This marks his second consecutive year making the cut at the Macau Open, having finished tied for 34th last year at six-under par. The cut was set at 139 (one-under par), allowing 69 players, including both Indonesian representatives, to continue play.
What This Means for Asian Tour Aspirations
Sungjae Im's dominant performance at the SJM Macao Open, an Asian Tour event, puts him in a strong position to claim his first title on the circuit. While he has achieved significant success on the PGA Tour, a victory here would add a notable Asian Tour win to his resume, potentially inspiring other established players to compete more frequently in the region.
For aspiring Asian professionals like Naraajie Emerald R.P. and Jonathan Wijono, making the cut in a high-profile event like the Macao Open provides valuable experience and ranking points.
Their continued presence in the weekend rounds allows them to compete against top international talent, offering a clear pathway to develop their skills and build their careers on the Asian Tour. Golf fans across Asia will be watching closely to see if Im can maintain his lead and if the Indonesian duo can climb further up the leaderboard.
