Gear & Style

Clubs, balls and apparel assessed for the conditions you’ll actually play in: heat, humidity and the occasional monsoon.

What we will test, and how

Equipment coverage here is written around Asian conditions rather than reprinted from launch material. Grips in 90 per cent humidity, balls that spend a season in 34-degree heat, rain gear that has to survive a monsoon squall and still pack into a carry bag. These are the questions the region actually asks, and they are rarely the ones a Florida or Scottish test answers.

What we will not do

We do not publish paid reviews, and we do not accept equipment on terms that require a favourable verdict. Anything supplied for testing is disclosed on the piece, and returned or declared. If a club or a garment does not survive a season here, the review says so.

When we will publish

The first tests are being arranged, and testing takes a season to be worth reading. Until then this section is empty rather than filled, because an untested verdict is worth less than no verdict.
